Dr. Melanie Hafford specializes in general surgery and bariatric surgery. A graduate of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dr. Hafford works hard to ensure that her patients receive the best care possible. She joins the Medical and Surgical Clinic of Irving and brings with her an expertise in a variety of different surgical procedure. At our clinic in Irving, Dr. Hafford performs both general surgery as well as bariatric surgical procedures, including laparoscopic bariatric surgery.
Dr. Hafford began her medical career studying at Emory University, where she received her bachelor degree in both biology and French. After graduating, she attended the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine and earned her Doctor of Medicine. From there, Dr. Hafford conducted her general surgery residency at UT Southwestern, and finally she attended the Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX where she had a bariatric and minimally invasive surgery fellowship. After concluding her fellowship, she earned a position at UT Southwestern, where she served as an assistant professor of metabolic and bariatric surgery.
Dr. Hafford is a member of the American Society of Matabolic and Bariatric Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, Associated of Women Surgeons, and the American Medical Association. She has also received the Karl Storz IRCAD Fellow Award, which is a national award given annually and allowed Dr. Hafford to study in Strasbourg, France, as well as learn advanced endoscopic techniques.
On top of being an accomplished surgeon, Dr. Hafford has published a number of articles and has presented at prestigious events. She speaks both English and French fluently. She looks forward to helping patients achieve better health.
