Dr. William Smith, Jr. joins the Medical and Surgical Clinic of Irving as a urology specialist. He began his career in urology by receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Princeton University. From there, he received a Master of Physiology from the North Carolina State University before enrolling in the General Surgery Internship program at the University of Texas Southwestern, where he also conducted his residency in the Department of Urology. Beyond his educational experience, Dr. Smith is currently a part of the American Urological Association, as well as a former member of the American Medical Association and the Student National Medical Association.

Over the years, Dr. Smith has developed an interest in the use of robotics in urology-related procedures. He also specializes in trauma/reconstruction, endourology, oncology, treating kidney stones, and female urology. Additionally, Dr. Smith has been a participant in national and international urologic meetings and published in a number of peer reviewed articles.

A gifted athlete and a former member of the USA Track & Field Olympic Development Team, Dr. Smith spends his time outside of the Irving Clinic at his philanthropic organization, the WA Smith Foundation, as well as playing tennis, piano, and running track and field. Dr. Smith also enjoys church ministry and spending his time with his wife and two daughters.

Dr. Smith also works at our Irving, TX clinic’s kidney stone clinic. The clinic aims to help those who are suffering from kidney stones or recurrent kidney stones. Kidney stones can be extremely painful and cause complications; in fact, it is estimated that kidney stones cost more than $5 billion dollars every year in medical expenses. Our kidney stone clinic combines urology and nephrology to offer comprehensive and integrated support for those suffering from kidney stones.
